OAC Names Shutt Player of the Week

AUSTINTOWN, OHIO – Ryan Shutt, a sophomore from Coshocton (Coshocton High School), was named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tennis Player of the Week announced the league office Monday.

Shutt went a combined 6-0 at third singles, second doubles, and third doubles to help the Cardinals finish the week with a 3-0 record with wins over Heidelberg University, Muskingum University, and Capital University.

Shutt becomes the first men’s tennis athlete from the Cardinals to win the award this season. This is the first time the honor has been bestowed to him.

He won at third singles against Heidelberg, 6-1, 6-2; and he and sophomore Tyler Gibbons won at third doubles 8-4. 

Shutt won at third singles against Muskingum, 8-0; and won at second doubles, 8-1 with freshman Kendall Coffman. 

In the regular-season finale against Capital, Ryan won at third singles, 6-0, 6-1; and won at third doubles 8-5 with Gibbons as his partner.

Shutt and the rest of the Cardinals tennis team begin postseason play this Wednesday, May 2, when Otterbein hosts Heidelberg in the first round of the OAC Tournamant. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
