Six Placed on At-Large Academic All-OAC Teams

AUSTINTOWN, OHIO – The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) named six Otterbein University student-athletes to the Academic All-OAC at-large team.
 
The men’s and women’s at-large winners consist of student-athletes from the sports of wrestling, golf, swimming and diving and tennis.
 
Senior Heidi Mitchell, and juniors Christine Foppe and Alexandria Pulos from the women’s golf team earned Academic All-OAC. Meanwhile, senior Steven Albert (men’s tennis) and sophomores Julie Stroyne (women’s tennis) and Marie McGinnis (women’s golf) were named honorable mention.
 
Mitchell, a senior from Russellville (Eastern Brown Local), notched Academic All-OAC honors for the second-straight year. An accounting major, she earned a share of ninth place at the OAC Championships with a 179 (89-90).
 
Foppe, a junior from Cincinnati (Mt. Notre Dame High School), carried an 87.8-stroke average and also garnered second team All-OAC honors this season. An education major, she shot a 184 (96-88) to finish 14th at the OAC Championships.
 
Pulos, a junior from Dayton (Northmont High School), was also a second team All-OAC performer on the women’s golf team after she averaged 86.7 strokes per round this season. An international business major, she led all Otterbein golfers at the OAC Championships with rounds of 86 and 88 for a 174 to earn a share of third place.
 
Albert, a senior from Findlay (Findlay High School), earned academic honors after a solid final campaign for the men’s tennis team. Playing mostly at second singles and doubles, Albert finished with a 4-3 conference record, 5-6 overall. While playing at both first and second doubles he posted an 11-4 mark including a 6-1 record against OAC opponents.
 
Stroyne, a sophomore from Venetia, Pa. (Peters Twp. High School), adds Academic All-OAC to her awards list. A nursing major, Stroyne is also the reigning two-time OAC Player of the Year. She helped lead the women’s tennis team to the semifinals of the OAC Tournament and a 6-2 conference mark this season and twice was named OAC Athlete of the Week.
 
McGinnis, a sophomore from Frazeysburg (Tri-Valley High School), earned Academic All-OAC after also being named to the All-OAC first team. A nursing major, she shot a 177 (92-85) for seventh place at the OAC Championships and carried a season-stroke average of 85.1.
 
The academic award winners are selected by the OAC faculty representatives. To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least his second year of participation in the sport.
