WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University men’s tennis team wrapped up their fall schedule with an impressive 9-0 win over visiting Central State University Wednesday afternoon at the Clements Recreational Center. The match was forced indoor due to inclement weather.
The Cardinals (2-1), under fifth year head coach Mark Anderson, finished the fall with a pair of victories following their defeat at Northwestern Ohio. Otterbein knocked off Malone College 5-4 this past Saturday.
“The fall went very well,” said Anderson. “We had a tough loss against Northwestern Ohio, but the guys played very solid against Central State.”
Freshman Will Willson has assumed the role in first singles for the Cardinals. The Detroit Catholic Central alum posted a 2-1 mark at first singles in the fall. In his victories against Malone and Central State, Wilson only lost five games.
Another newcomer who had as good a fall as anyone was David Seckel. He followed up his victory at third singles against Northwestern Ohio with a pair of wins against Malone and Central State. Seckel was the only member of the team to go 3-0 in the fall.
“I was very impressed with the entire team. The freshmen have to make the transition from high school tennis to the colligate level and they did very well.”
Willson and Seckel are two of the five freshmen on the Otterbein roster. Zach McDivitt and Kevin Adell also picked up victories in the fall for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals will take the winter off before returning to the courts in the spring. Stay tuned to otterbeincardinals.com for the complete 2013 men’s tennis schedule.
