AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Otterbein University tennis swept the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Player of the Week awards Tuesday afternoon, as freshman Will Willson received the honor for the men while junior Julie Stroyne garnered her second-straight selection on the women’s side.
Willson (Commerce Twp., Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) was chosen for the first time in his young career after helping his team to a 3-2 record during the spring break trip to Orlando, Fla.
Willson was victorious in four of his five singles matches at the No. 1 spot, and teamed with classmate David Seckel to post a 4-1 mark at first doubles. He lost just two sets over the course of the trip.
Stroyne (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) continued her dominance last week, going 10-0 as the women’s tennis team left Orlando with a 4-1 record.
Stroyne won all five of her singles and all five of her doubles matches, improving to a 21-1 this season (11 singles wins, 10 doubles wins.) She dropped just 13 total games on the trip and did not yield a set to any of her opponents.
This marks the sixth OAC weekly honor for Stroyne, the reigning two-time conference Player of the Year.
Both squads will be back in action Friday afternoon against the University of Mount Union. The men will travel to Alliance while the women will host the Purple Raiders in Westerville. Both starting times are set for 1 p.m.
