Dr. Marilyn Day never left Otterbein College after she graduated in 1953. She served her alma mater for over forty years as a teacher and administrator in the Department of Physical Education. During this time, she also coached field hockey, volleyball, softball, tennis, golf, and bowling at the College. She became chair of the Women's Health and Physical Education Department in 1962, held the position of women's athletic director, and acted as the advisor to Epsilon Kappa Tau for almost 40 years. During her time as chair, the department expanded its offering to include a sports medicine major, health major, and sports/wellness management major. Also, she was instrumental in initiating the Equine Science program. As her longtime colleague Elmer "Bud" Yoest once said of Marilyn, "She has spent her lifetime being dedicated to Otterbein."
