MARIETTA, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s track and field team won two events en route to a fourth place finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) South Meet Saturday afternoon at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.
The Cardinals scored 101 points in the five-team event. Marietta earned the team title by scoring 145 points, narrowly ahead of Muskingum who finished second with 142.
Sophomore Andrew Mantell continued to have a successful indoor season by claiming the 500-meter dash title with a time of 1:08.04. Freshman Lucas Rogers finished third in the event (1:09.63).
Mantell and Rogers also teamed up with sophomore Lucas Armstrong and reining OAC Track Athlete of the Week junior Arnez Franklin to claim the 4x400-meter relay title. The team crossed the tape with a time of 3:28.28.
Franklin and Armstrong also were on Otterbein’s second place 4x200-meter relay team. Along with sophomore Kyle Jefferson and freshman Marcus Gilmore, the team finished with a time of 1:34.12.
Senior Wes Pierson notched a second-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles by crossing the finish line in 8.15 seconds.
Junior Aaric Milligan took second place in the pole vault at 4.42 meters, and senior Karl Wunderle claimed third at 4.27 meters.
Freshman Joey Montoya finished the 800-meter run in second place with a time of 2:04.75, while junior Mark Bayman took third in the 3000-meter run (9:31.61).
Mantell, Montoya, Rogers, and senior Greg Atkinson teamed up to claim a third-place finish in the distance medley. The group finished the event with a time of 10:52.69.
"I thought we competed well and scored about 15 more points than I thought they might," said Otterbein Men's Head Track and Field coach Dave Lehman. "We were missing some key athletes and once we get them back in action, I think we will be a solid team."
The Cardinals return to action this Saturday, Feb. 4, when they head to Ada for the Ohio Northern Polar Bear Invite.
