WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recently partnered with the Westerville Area Resource Ministry (W.A.R.M) for the fourth year in a row.
This year proved to be SAAC’s best fundraising effort yet, raising $700 to help W.A.R.M. reach its goal of feeding 3,000 needy families during the holiday season.
Each sport donated to support the cause, with junior Jon Cheyney and the entire baseball team assuming the responsibility of collecting the funds from each team.
“It's always nice to give back, but this year was extra special,” SAAC President and junior baseball player Dominic Poretta said. “Our group, and the rest of the Otterbein athletic community, did a tremendous job of rallying around this cause.”
Porretta and fellow SAAC officers Brooke Albright (softball) and Liz Palmer (volleyball) helped organize the fundraising initiative. In addition, members of the men's lacrosse team, Sigma Alpha Tau sorority, and Cardinal Corps Leaders helped compile approximately 8,000 bags of food at the W.A.R.M. office.
“As a group, we strive to impact the Westerville community through our platform as student-athletes and this just shows the potential we have to truly make a difference.”
