Athletic and Recreation Facilities Use Policy
Otterbein's athletic facilities, including the Clements Recreation Center and Rike Center, are available for use by Otterbein students, faculty, and staff with a valid Cardinal Card. To utilize the facilities, you must tap your Cardinal Card at the card reader at the front desk in the Clements Recreation Center upon entry and carry your card with you while using the facilities.
Our goal is to provide members of the Cardinal Community with access to fitness and recreation opportunities. As a private institution, we must limit outside access to maximize the opportunities for our students, faculty, and staff. To enforce our existing guest policy, curb unauthorized facility usage, and to enhance campus safety, we are implementing some new procedures.
Any student wishing to bring a potential guest to the facilities must submit a request at least 24 hours in advance with the name(s) of the requested guest(s), and the intended date of usage. Requests can be made by filling out the form at this link. Guest confirmations will be sent via email to the requesting student. Upon arrival, the guest(s) will be asked to present a valid photo ID and sign in at the front desk of the Clements Recreation Center. Guests must remain with the active Cardinal Card carrier for the duration of their visit. A maximum of two guests can be approved for a single facility use. Front desk workers will have access to a spreadsheet of approved guests. Walk-up guests will not be permitted in the facility.
Faculty and staff will still have access to their existing employee benefit, the ability to bring in two guests when the facility is open. Identical procedures, as stated above, must still be followed. However, a guest of a faculty or staff member (i.e., a family member) can be approved for consistent facility usage, as long as the active Cardinal Card carrier is present with their guest(s).
As we implement our new procedures, users of the facility may be asked to show their Cards or ID cards during random checks to make sure everyone is aware of and following procedures. If any user does not comply with the outlined procedures, they will be asked to leave the facility. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
