WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University junior tennis player Julie Stroyne and sophomore lacrosse player Victoria Blatt were named to the Capital One Academic All-District women's at-large first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released Friday.
As a result of landing on the first team, the pair is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.
Stroyne, from Venetia, Pa. (Peters Township High School), was named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) player of the year in women's tennis this season for the third time in her career. She compiled a perfect 22-0 record at No. 1 singles, posted seven shutouts, and lost just one set the entire season.
Blatt, from Hilliard (Hilliard Darby High School), led the women's lacrosse team in scoring for a second-straight season. The team captain scored 49 goals and dished out seven assists from her attack position. The Cardinals went 8-7 in just their second year of play.
Stroyne and Blatt are both nursing majors.
To be eligible for Capital One academic all-district teams, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Women's at-large teams are made up of student-athletes participating in the following sports: bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo.
The Academic All-America at-large team will be announced Tuesday, June 4.
