WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University has landed a league-high and record 76 student-athletes on the 2018 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) list for spring season, announced Tuesday morning by the conference office.
The 76 recipients for the Cards was easily best in the conference, with Ohio Northern coming in second at 57 student-athletes and Heidelberg close behind with 55. The number also marks the highest total for any institution since the new Academic All-OAC format was implemented in the fall of 2013. The previous best was also held by Otterbein, at 64 in the spring of 2014.
The Otterbein women's track and field team spearheaded the charge this year with 16 warranting the honor, followed by 14 from baseball and 11 from the softball program. Men's track and field added 10, men's lacrosse contributed nine and women's lacrosse (5), women's tennis (4), men's golf (4), women's golf (2) and men's tennis (1) also rounded out the total.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) heading into their current season, have reached varsity status, and be at least sophomore academic standing at his/her current institution.
