Ryan Shutt enters his seventh season coaching at Otterbein, originally in an assistant role for the men’s side before transitioning into a new role as lead assistant for both programs in October of 2016. During his time on staff, he has helped Tyler Stephen kepe both programs near the top of the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Shutt, a Coshocton native, returned to his alma mater after graduating from Otterbein in 2014 following a four-year playing career for the Cardinals A 4x All-OAC selection, Shutt was a two-year captain with 111 combined victories in singles/doubles play and was a member of the winningest-team in program history with a 19-5 overall record.
Shutt also received the Royal F. Martin Outstanding Spring Sport Award and was an Academic All-OAC pick in 2014. As a captain of the 2013-14 OAC regular-season and tournament championship team, Shutt was a member of the first team in program history to receive a bid to the NCAA tournament where they advanced to the second round, ousting Messiah College, 5-0, in the opening round before falling to nationally-ranked Carnegie Melon.
Shutt has continued on with his professional career as a USPTR Certified Teaching Professional at the New Albany Tennis Center where he mentors multiple juniors in the area. He also serves as the facilities services coordinator for the university.
Shutt resides in Westerville and, when not involved in tennis, enjoys traveling, movies and dining out with his close friends and family.
