Karl Wunderle

Karl Wunderle was hired as the full-time assistant coach for Otterbein Track and Field during the summer of 2015 and now prepares to enter his fourth season for the Cardinals.

A 2012 graduate of Otterbein, Wunderle spend three seasons as an assistant coach for the program, specializing in the pole vault and other jump events. He also spent the 2012-13 school year as an assistant track and field coach for nearby Dublin Scioto High School.

Wunderle enjoyed a nice athletic career for the Cardinals as an undergraduate, becoming a four-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) performer in the pole vault. He currently ranks third on Otterbein’s top-10 list in the event with a career best vault of 16’0” even.

Wunderle has guided the recent surge of Otterbein pole vault, most notably on the women's side where the Cardinals have five OAC titles, four different national qualifiers and three All-American awards since 2016. Harmony Kolling was the national indoor runner-up in both 2017 and 2018.

A three-time varsity letterman and Dean’s List honoree as a Life and Earth Science major, Wunderle was twice selected as Otterbein’s Most Outstanding Field Athlete and ended his career by receiving the OAC Clyde Lamb Award, presented annually to the top male and female student-athletes at each of the ten institutions.

Wunderle, who earned a master’s degree in Allied Health Administration from Otterbein in 2015, is a USATF Certified Level 1 coach. He is also concussion and pole vault certified through the NFHS.
