Scott Alpeter

Scott Alpeter begins his fourth season as men's head cross country coach after coming aboard in 2009, and will also take over the women's cross country program in 2013. In addition, coaches the men's distance runners in track and field.

As a student at Otterbein, Alpeter ran cross country and track for four years, earning All-America honors in the steeplechase in 1986. He still holds the school record, 9:02.41, in the steeplechase, and sits third all-time in both the 10,000 (31:07) and 5000 (14:34.4). He won Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) titles in the outdoor 5000 in 1984, indoor 5000 in 1985, and steeplechase in 1986. Alpeter also earned all-conference honors three times in cross country, winning both the OAC and NCAA D-III Great Lakes Regional in 1985.

Alpeter helped lead Otterbein to six OAC titles and four second-place finishes in men’s cross country while serving as an assistant (1986-95). He also served as assistant girls’ cross country coach at Hilliard Darby High School from 2004 to 2007.

Alpeter serves as director of operations for Ohio Right to Life, a position he assumed in April. He and his wife, Mary, a 1987 Otterbein graduate and standout distance runner, have five children, Aaron, 25, Erika, 23, Austin, 19, Elaina, 17, and Eliza, 15, and live in Galloway.
