Otterbein Winning Streak Now 11 Games With Strong Second Period

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team continues its winning streak by defeating Muskingum, 5-2, Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals have now won 11 straight matches, outscoring their opponents 48-6 during the streak. Muskingum now drops to 5-12 overall and 0-8 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). 

Otterbein (13-2 overall and 7-0 in the OAC) scored early in the match, as Haleigh Guerra found the back of the net in the fourth minute.

Muskingum showed a lot of fight early by battling against the first-place Cardinals by rattling the next two goals. 

The Fighting Muskies went into the break leading 2-1, with this being the first time Otterbein has trailed at halftime during its winning streak, but Otterbein held a 22-3 edge in total shots.

The second half would be all Cardinals tallying four goals. The first goal came from Bella Shivley in the 46th minute off an assist from Haley Hott. Shivley has now tied Jillian Strimbu and Melanie Evans for the program record with of 14 goals during a single season.

Four minutes later, Emily Ganz beat goalkeeper Katie Bodenmiller of Muskingum. Annie Mosca would join in on the scoring in the 56th minute. The final Otterbein goal came from Emerson Woerner in the 81st minute to give the Cardinals a 5-2 victory.

Otterbein totaled 45 shots, while Muskingum attempted five shots, as Bodenmiller had a valiant effort for Muskingum recording 18 saves for the Muskies. Erin Gordon allowed two goals and did not register any saves. 

The Cardinals will battle for first place in the OAC Wednesday night, as they travel to Ohio Northern for a 7 p.m. match. Otterbein sits at 7-0 in the conference, while Ohio Northern is 6-0 and playing later tonight. The Polar Bears are currently receiving votes in the national poll.
