WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Otterbein women's lacrosse team saw its 2018 campaign come to a close on Saturday afternoon following a 20-8 loss to John Carroll inside Memorial Stadium.

The Cardinals end the season with an 8-9 record overall and an even 4-4 mark in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play, having won three-straight games midway through the year to help boost their win total. Otterbein concludes the spring winner's of two of its last four contests.

John Carroll (14-2, 7-1 OAC) got off to a fast start, scoring the game's initial goal before freshman Kiera Mulcahy knotted the score at one apiece off an assist from junior Noa Crowley.

The Blue Streaks then notched five unanswered scores to take a 6-1 advantage, before junior Abby Smoot registered her first goal of the day following a nice lead pass from sophomore Ema Pusecker.

Three more goals for JCU boosted its lead to seven goals, before Smoot again found the back of the net this time off a dish from Mulcahy. The Blue Streaks managed to add seven more goals over the course of the final 15 minutes of the opening half, while Smoot fired in a man-down goal around the two-minute mark to make the score 16-4 at the break.

Freshman goalie Allison Rhoads was kept busy in goal the initial period, stopping 10 shots for the Cards on 26 shots on-goal by the Blue Streaks. JCU had 35 shots to Otterbein's six in the first half.

It was Otterbein which came out firing on all cylinders to begin the second frame, as Pusecker assisted back-to-back goals from freshman Julia Karas and Mulcahy less than three minutes in prompting a timeout by John Carroll.

Karas again netted a shot around the 13-minute mark, her second score of the day, as junior Kenna Walquist tossed a well-placed ball to her for the assist. Smoot added her team-best fourth goal two minutes later to make it 19-8, before JCU tacked on another goal of its own down the stretch.

Sophomore Tasha Williams closed out the game for the Cardinals in goal, stopping seven of the Blue Streaks' shots.
