Women's Tennis Falls 6-3 to Oberlin in First Spring Match

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Otterbein women's tennis team fell at the hands of No. 10 Oberlin, 6-3, Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals drop to 2-1 on the season, while Oberlin improves to 2-1 overall.

The Cardinals put up a tough effort against the nationally-ranked Yeomen but were unable to pull off the victory. Otterbein improved from a season ago, as the Cardinals were swept last year.

Otterbein fell behind 4-0 before the duo of  Madison Mueller and Megan Stuteville earned victories in the fifth and sixth singles position. Mueller lost the first set 6-3, but bounced back in the second set and won 6-3. In the tiebreaking round, she was able to win 10-8. Stuteville claimed her first victory of the spring season by defeating Hannah Keidan 7-6, 6-2.

Kristen Zink made her tennis debut, as she played softball last season for the Cardinals, and picked up her first doubles victory with Muller in third doubles by a score of 8-5. The sophomore came away with a loss in the fourth singles slot (6-0, 6-2).

Sydney Bergman, Makayla Sutter, and Marriella Briones all came up short in the first, second and third singles spot. Bergman battled in the first set and lost 6-4 to Delaney Black. The second set would once again go in favor of Black (6-1).

The Cardinals will be back in action on March 3 during their spring break trip as Otterbein will play seven matches in six days.
