Cards Blitz Thomas More Behind Well-Rounded Effort

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – After a full month away from Memorial Stadium, the Otterbein women's lacrosse team got back on its home field and into the win column Tuesday night by defeating Thomas More, 19-1, behind a well-rounded effort.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cardinals (2-6 overall) grabbed momentum early in the game by going on a 5-0 run against the Saints.
     
  • Thomas More (0-4) responded with their lone goal coming at 14:43 remaining in the first half. Otterbein was able to score the final five goals and increase its lead to 11-1 at the break, putting the running clock into play.
     
  • Otterbein won 9 of 12 draw controls in the first half, helping build their 10-point lead. The Cardinals owned a 22-5 advantage in total shots before intermission, and put the game away by outscoring the Saint 8-0 in the second period.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Sophomore Cameron Finnegan tied a career-high seven points, coming on three goals and four assists.
     
  • Senior Abby Smoot led all players with five goals and  moves in to second all-time on the program's record list with 119. She now ranks only behind former standout Tory Blatt.
     
  • Otterbein limited the Saints to just 15 shots on goal and turned around to successfully clear 12 of 13 opportunities.
     
  • The 18-goal margin ties the fourth highest in program history. Otterbein gave its offense multiple chances throughout by winning 16 of 21 draws, including a combined 11 from the duo of Julia Karas and Noa Crowley.

The Cardinals will be back in action Saturday at Memorial Stadium, opening league play by hosting 5x defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Mount Union at 1 p.m.
