Women's Tennis Sweeps Pioneers


MARIETTA, Ohio - The Otterbein women's tennis team defeated Marietta 9-0 to claim its fourth-straight victory, as nearly all the individuals finished with a 6-0, 6-0 result. The Cardinals are now 12-2 on the year and 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while Marietta falls to 3-11 overall and 1-4 in the league. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cardinals started the afternoon by bwinning all three double matches, Marriella Briones and Jordyn Traxler won 8-0 in second doubles. Sydney Bergman and Makayla Sutter won 8-1, as Kristen Zink and Madison Mueller came away victorious 8-2. 
  • In first singles, Bergman swept Latrice Nelson 6-0, 6-0 and improves to 8-8 on the season. Sutter had the most competitive match, as she emerged with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. 
  • Briones, Mueller and Megan Stuteville all won 6-0, 6-0, as Stuteville remains perfect in sixth singles. In the fourth singles slot, Zink won 6-0, 3-0 as her opponent could not finish the match. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Otterbein currently owns a .762 dual winning percentage in singles matches, and a .786 winning mark in dual doubles. Briones and Traxler have won their previous four matches and eight of their last 10 in the second doubles position. 
  • With a victory from the first singles slot, Bergman is now over the .500 mark on the season in dual matches. 
  • Mueller and Zink are a perfect 4-0 in third doubles, as the team now owns a .929 winning percentage at third doubles. 
  • The Cardinals have won 10 of their last 11 matches, with the one loss coming on the final day of spring break to division II opponent the University of Mary. 
UP NEXT:
The Cardinals will travel to University Heights for a match with the reigning OAC Champions John Carroll on Friday at 4 p.m. Last season the Cardinals battled with the Blue Streaks and lost 6-3.
