WESTERVILLE, Ohio—The No. 23-ranked Otterbein women's soccer team opened home play with a 3-0 victory over visiting Denison Tuesday evening at Memorial Stadium. The Cardinals were led by Delaney Earl as she tallied two goals in the contest, continuing her scorching start on the young campaign, as she now has seven goals in the first three outings.

Otterbein improves to a 3-0 record, overcoming last year's wacky 7-1 defeat at Denison, and the Cardinals are now an impressive 17-0-1 in regular season play dating back to September 8 of last year. The Cards have won also won three of their last five home openers.

Returning All-American Bella Shively put the Cards on the board in the 35th minute, tallying her third goal of the season after sending a 30-yard missile bar-down into the net. The Cards took that 1-0 lead into the break before Earl converted her first in the 47th minute mark, making a great individual effort to beat a defender and then Denison goalkeeper Patil Tchalokian into the opposite corner.

Midway through the second half, at the 61st minute, Shively launched a long-distance assist about 30 yards away to Earl, who took one quick touch and finished bottom left. Goalkeeper Erin Gordon went the distance secure another shutout for the home side.

A tenacious defensive effort was on display as Otterbein limited Denison to only five shots throughout, with one being on net. The Cards ripped off 10 of their own attempts.

Otterbein has the weekend off before travelling to nearby Delaware next Wednesday evening to face off against Ohio Wesleyan at 7 p.m.. The team will eventually return to the confines of Memorial Stadium come Thursday, September 19 to play host to Adrian.
