WESTERVILLE, Ohio- Despite taking an early lead, women's lacrosse dropped a Saturday afternoon contest in shoot out fashion to the visiting Transylvania Pioneers. The Cardinals jumped out to an early 4-2 lead, but could not keep pace with the high powered Pioneer offense, ultimately falling 21-14.
Transylvania is now 2-0 on the season with the win, while the Cards fall to 2-2 n the young season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Otterbein opened up the scoring with two quick goals coming at 29:22 from Emily Willms, and another shortly after at 29:09 from Macey Buchanan.
- The Pioneers answered quickly at 28:31 when Sophia Sparks found the back of the net.
- The shootout was on after that, with goals coming fast and furiously for a total of 20 first half scores.
- Transylvania took a 12-8 lead into the half.
- The two sides traded goals opening up the second half, until a pair of three goal runs helped the Pioneers pull away for good.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The shootout included 74 total shots, with the Pioneers outshooting the Cards 46-28.
- Willms, a freshman, made a name for herself today scoring six goals, her six goals in a single game ranks third, just two behind the record of eight.
- Cameron Finnegan recorded a hat trick as well, scoring three goals of her own while also dishing out one helper. She went over 100 career points in the process.
- Freshman Leah McNutt made 12 saves while going the full 60 minutes between the pipes.
