Cards Score Program Record 25 Goals in Win Over Franciscan

WESTERVILLE, Ohio- Women's lacrosse set a new program record for goals scored in a single game during a dominant performance Wednesday night, defeating Franciscan 25-4. The Cardinals jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, which started a running clock, just seven minutes into the game.

The Cards have now won two straight, and improve to 4-2 overall on the season while the Barons fall to 0-4. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • The Cards opened the scoring flood gates just 31 seconds into the game when Emily Willms found the back of the net on a feed from Cameron Finnegan.
     
  • Otterbein then scored 18 straight to close out the half, taking a 19-0 lead into the break.
     
  • Macey Buchanan opened the second half with a goal a little over a minute into the action, giving the Cards a 20-0 advantage.
     
  • Franciscan finally found the back of the net at 20:17, making the score 21-1.
     
  • The Barons added three more goals to end the game while the Cards added four more, giving Otterbein its largest margin of victory this season, and a new program best for goals in a game.
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
 
  • Willms recorded an eight point effort by scoring seven goals, tied for second most all-time in a single game, and dishing out one assist.
     
  • Her eight points also moved her into a tie for third for most points in a single game.
     
  • Buchanan was the second leading scorer with five goals, while Kiera Mulcahy added four more.
     
  • Grace Cory and Finnegan each added three goals of their own.

UP NEXT:
  • Otterbein will enjoy an extended rest before returning to action on March 21st when they travel to Mount Union, game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
