Cards Beat Capital, Defend OAC Regular-Season Title

WESTERVILLE, Ohio- Just 202 days ago, the Cardinals claimed a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference crown after taking down the Capital Crusaders, 1-0.

Fast forward to this afternoon, and the Cards had a chance to win the title outright; all they needed was a win over the newly renamed Capital Comets.

Both sides hit the locker rooms at the half in a deadlock, 0-0. Capital managed a slight shot advantage of 9-8, but neither side saw any great chances to score. Both goalies kept a clean sheet, making two saves apiece.

Delaney Earl would play the hero in the second half, though, as she's done so many times before. The OAC's leading scorer found herself out in front of the pack after a beautiful ball was played into space by Morgan Somers.

After corralling the ball around midfield, Earl did the rest by streaking past the back line of Comets and finishing her best shot of the afternoon low and away.

That would be the only score of the afternoon, despite Capital having some chances on corner pieces.

The Cardinal defense once again held an opponent scoreless, the tenth time this season.

The Cardinals claim the top-seed in next week's OAC Tournament; they also claim the Oar… an old tradition brought back this season where an Oar with the schools' logos is presented to the winning team between Otterbein and Capital.

UP NEXT:

The Cardinals will host an OAC Tournament second-round matchup next Thursday with opponent TBD. Stay tuned to otterbeincardinals.com and all Otterbein Athletics social media outlets for opponent and game time information.
