WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten on the young schedule Wednesday night with another strong offensive performance, besting Ohio Northern in a 21-16 shootout at Memorial Stadium.

The Cardinals, 2-0 for the first time in program history, netted 16 goals in the first half as the game was relatively in-hand throughout the entire second frame. Ohio Northern drops a second-straight game after recently losing to John Carroll.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams traded punches early before Otterbein held a narrow leads of 7-5 and 8-6 across the midway point of the first half.

  • The Cardinals ultimately kicked into gear, using a 5-0 run to find some breathing room and fly into half with a 16-9 lead.

  • Otterbein threatened a running clock on a few occasions in the second half, but a pesky Polar Bear team wouldn't go away quietly.

  • The Cards led 21-12 with 14:21 remaining in the game until Ohio Northern rattled off four-straight goals to end the night.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Julia Karas, who had a career-high seven goals in the 2018 meeting with ONU, scored six times (five in the first half) to lead Otterbein.

  • The Cardinals used another well-rounded effort as Macey Buchanan, Cameron Finnegan, Lexie Van Cleef and Kiera Mulcahy all recorded hat tricks.

  • Promising freshman Sydney Kilgore roped in a game-high seven goals to lead Ohio Northern.

  • Otterbein held a 42-31 shot advantage and was 6 of 12 on free-position attempts.

  • Leah McNutt made 10 saves for the Cards, including four-straight in the second half to help keep momentum.
