BEXLEY, Ohio – Women's soccer collected its eighth win of the season Sunday afternoon, knocking of the host Capital Crusaders, 1-0.
The win improves the Cards to 8-0-1 overall, good enough to share the Ohio Athletic Conference regular-season crown with Ohio Northern. Due to comfortably holding a goal-differential tiebreaker, the Cardinals will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming OAC Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The two sides played the entire first half to a near draw until Bella Shivley found the back of the net in the 43rd minute for her team-leading eighth score of the year.
Â
- The defense once again held an opponent off the scoreboard, limiting the Crusaders to just two shots on goal, en route to its eighth shutout in nine outings.
Â
- Otterbein didn't take its foot off the gas, pressing forward until the very end as Anjuli Anderson forced Kelly Bachmann to make a save in the closing seconds.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Cardinals played to their strengths and earned six corner kick opportunities, compared to just one for the Crusaders. Otterbein finished with a marginal 14-9 shot advantage.
Â
- Otterbein has now won two-straight matches at Capital, with the last loss coming at the end of the regular season in 2019... before the Cards bounced the Crusaders out of the postseason the following week.
Â
- This marks the second OAC regular-season title for the program in the past three seasons.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Otterbein receives a bye through the quarterfinals of the league's six-team event, and will ultimately host a semifinal match Thursday at Memorial Stadium. Opponent and game time are to be determined.
