NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team notched its first victory of Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday afternoon, departing with a rather convincing 3-0 decision at host Muskingum.
The Cardinals get back over .500 on the year as a result, now standing 5-4-2 overall and an even 1-1-1 against the league.
Otterbein's initial two goals came via the Zanella twins, assisted by different teammates.
Bailey Zanella put the Cards ahead for good in the 20th minute, taking a pass off the end-line from
Morgan Somers and quickly redirecting a header from up close in the box.
Aubrey Zanella then doubled up Otterbein's lead midway through the second half.
Lauren Alley fed a pass back to the top of the box, watching Aubrey deliver an absolute rope from 30 yards out above the reach of a diving Muskie keeper.
Somers left little doubt in the final result with an insurance goal down the stretch. She took a nice through pass from
Kesley Louderback up the middle before a couple rhythm touches, ultimately finishing the play lower left with ease.
Otterbein posted a commanding 36-1 advantage in total shots, attempting 11 before intermission and then a whopping 25 after the break. Zanella had five herself.
The Cards also held a 14-1 edge in corner kicks while goalkeepers
Ella Schwertfager and
Caitlin Drew split time between the pipes.
Kelly Buck made 14 saves in the first half for Muskingum, which falls to 2-7-3 overall.
Otterbein gets back home to begin next week, hosting Wilmington at Memorial Stadium come Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
