WESTERVILLE, Ohio – In their second home game of the week, the Otterbein Cardinals emerged victorious over visiting Centre, 16-10.
The Cardinals used a solid third quarter to improve to 2-1 on the young season while the Colonels fall to 1-3.
WHAT WENT DOWN:
- Centre jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Cards ripped off a 4-0 run to jump ahead. Four different Cards scored in the run that saw a man-up and man-down goal.
- The two sides hit the half deadlocked at six.
- Otterbein outscored the Colonels 8-2 in the third quarter after the visitors got on the board first in the second half.
- The Cards carried a 14-8 lead into the final quarter. They held the visitors to just two goals in the last 15 minutes of play en route to emerging victorious.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Emily Willms paced the offense that saw five Cardinals score multiple goals with six points; she scored five goals and handed out one assist.
- Lexie Van Cleef and Carli Rigel joined the hat-trick club with three goals apiece; Van Cleef also recorded two assists.
- The Cardinals converted on all three of their extra-man opportunities while outshooting the visitors 36-27.
- Freshman Goalie Maggie Nance recorded her third-straight game with double-digit saves, she made 10 stops in 60 minutes of action between the pipes.
- Otterbein is now 2-1 all-time against Centre, winning the last two meetings.
