TIFFIN, Ohio – The weather and conditions weren't ideal, but what else do you expect crossing over the midway point of October in the great state of Ohio?
The Otterbein women's soccer team dealt with some rain and windy conditions on the road at Heidelberg across Saturday afternoon, but maneuvered its way to a decisive 4-0 victory to remain perfect in conference play.
The Cards, having dropped just one match over the last full month, used four different goal scorers in what became a total team effort over the Student Princes. Otterbein now stands 9-2-2 overall and 5-0 within the OAC.
All scoring damage was done in a 28-minute window bridging halftime, with neither team hitting the scoreboard until grad transfer Caiilynn Adelman tallied the first in the 39th minute. Sophomore
Kylie Hast was credited with an assist.
The score was just 1-0 at intermission before Otterbein pulled away very early in the second period.
Payton Kaufman scored at the 51:55 mark, and then
Morgan Somers netted another less than a minute later to keep all momentum. Somers has now scored in all five OAC contests.
The doors blew open in the 67th minute when
Anjuli Anderson joined the, matching Somers for a team-best sixth goal this fall.
Otterbein ended the day with a 22-7 shot cushion and 10-2 edge on corner kicks. Brigid Enright made 10 saves in the home net for Heidelberg while
Ella Schwertfager and Cailtin Drew split time once again.
Otterbein returns home for a big Wednesday showdown to launch next week, welcoming John Carroll for a first kick at 7 p.m.
