SENIOR MOMENT! Cards Net Four Second-Half Goals on BW

WESTERVILLE, Ohio –It was a scintillating Senior Night for the Otterbein women's soccer program on Saturday evening, as the Cardinals shrugged off some inclement rain/weather in the area to blow past Baldwin Wallace 4-0 at Memorial Stadium.

Prior to opening kick, the program recognized veterans Morgan Somers, Payton Kaufman, Cierra Clemons, Kalle Hotes, Anjuli Anderson, Jada Leyland and Cailynn Adelman for their various contributions to the program. The four-year seniors have been part of a 46-10-7 stretch since arrival.

HOW IT WENT DOWN:
  • Otterbein handled majority of possession before halftime, but the Yellow Jackets weathered some spots in the initial frame to keep the game scoreless at the break. The Cards held a 12-4 shot margin in that first period.

  • The Cardinals then finally broke through with a pair of goals (in a four-minute span) very early in the second half. Anderson first ripped a bending corner in the 51st minute that was on target and heading into the net, forcing BW keeper Katie Scott to make a stop. But Adelman was right there in front of the net to clean the play up.

  • Shortly thereafter, Camryn Earl was pushed from behind for a foul in the 54th minute that resulted in a free kick. Kaufman struck the ball on a perfect line that sailed into the upper-left portion of the goal, igniting her signature "bow and arrow" celebration to the home bench and crowd.

  • The floodgates opened for good in the 71st minute when Adelman registered a multi-score performance, cleaning up yet another loose ball of a corner kick.

  • Junior Lauren Alley punctuated the scoring with under 3:00 remaining in the contest, burying a penalty kick to cap a dominant team effort.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Otterbein tops BW for the ninth-straight meeting, scoring multiple goals in each contest.

  • The Cards finished with a lopsided 27-5shot advantage with a 13-3 edge on goal.

  • Scott had to make eight saves for the Jackets before getting relief late. Ella Schwertfager played roughly 75 minutes and then gave way to Caitlin Drew.

NEXT WEEK:

The Cardinals will have a pair of road matches to close out the regular season, traveling down to Marietta on Wednesday and then venturing up to Alliance come Saturday evening for a late finale at Mount Union.
