Women's Soccer Topples Mount, Clinches Bye in OAC Tournament

ALLIANCE, Ohio – A trio of goals in the second half allowed the Otterbein women's soccer team to methodically pull away and top host Mount Union 4-0 Saturday under the light of Kehres Stadium, resting the Cardinals 8-1 in conference play this fall.

The Cardinals will settle for the No. 2 seed in next week's OAC Tournament, earning a bye through the quarterfinals and ultimately hosting a semifinal matchup come Thursday afternoon. The opponent is to be determined.

Otterbein ends the regular-season slate outscoring league opponents 24-4 on the aggregate, including a 15-2 margin over the last two weeks.

The Cardinals struck for their first goal in the 14th minute when Anjuli Anderson ripped a throw-in toward the end line. Morgan Somers was there to keep it alive into the box, where Camryn Earl buried it home right in front of the Raider goalkeeper.

That score remained through intermission and for over 50 minutes of game time, but Otterbein stayed with it and erupted for three insurance goals down the stretch…

In the 69th minute, sophomore Kylie Hast rocketed in a header thanks to a nice corner kick from Lauren Alley.

Down the stretch, Earl ripped a shot from 25 yards out that bounced off the hands of Mount Union's keeper and right into the net. In the final minute of regulation, Cailynn Adelman joined the scoring barrage after Rae Ehbar beat multiple defenders and found her teammate in the middle of the zone.

Otterbein finished with a rather dominant 27-6 edge in shots, with an 11-4 margin coming on goal. The Cards also posted a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks.
Caitlin Drew played the full 90 minutes in goal for Otterbein, chalking up four saves in the process. The defense blanked a fifth league opponent this fall.
