WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team cruised on in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, finishing another week unscathed with a decisive 5-0 victory against Muskingum on campus.
The Cardinals, playing their eighth (of 11 total) match at home this season, turned back the Muskies via a 5-1 to remain unbeaten in league play. Otterbein is now 7-2-2 this fall and a crisp 3-0 against the OAC.
Both teams settled in over the initial 10-15 minutes before
Bailey Zanella tallied her first of two goals in the half, scoring at the 15:02 mark to give Otterbein the lead for good.
Camryn Earl got loose up the left side line and fed a ball into the box, where the Muskie goalkeeper got a piece but not the entire thing. Zanella was there to quickly clean it up.
Morgan Somers, scoring for her third match in a row, doubled up the Otterbein lead in the 28th minute off a double assist from
Lauren Alley and
Anjuli Anderson. Muskingum sliced the lead in half in the 43rd minute as Isabelle Arnett-Tomasek finished a pass from Morgan Meisel.
(will be fixed in box score).
Zanella then made it a field-goal margin just 15 seconds before intermission by heading in a nice cross from Alley (off a free kick) into the box.
Otterbein took a 4-1 lead midway through the second half after an Own Goal by the Muskies, and
Alyssa Lemos scored her first college goal with under 10:00 remaining after a nice ball in from
Cailynn Adelman. She redirected a shot far right, upper 90 to complete the scoring.
(* Note: Goal will be fixed in box score after NCAA scoring system resituates from network error)
The Cards ended with a 25-5 shot margin overall and attempted seven of the 10 corner kicks on the day.
Ella Schwertfager and
Caitlin Drew split time evenly in the Otterbein net.
Kyleigh Dalhgren made six saves in the visitor goal before giving way late to her backup.
Otterbein will hit the road for a pair of games next week, traveling to Wilmington on Wednesday and then heading over to Tiffin for a matchup with Heidelberg next weekend.
