Otterbein Loses Ground Late to Unbeaten DePauw

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The undefeated DePauw Tigers remained that way and spoiled a beautiful/sunny day at Memorial Stadium in women's lacrosse action on Saturday, pulling away from host Otterbein to win 17-8 in non-conference action.

KEY STRETCHES:
  • Both sides traded momentum swings early in a higher-paced first quarter, with Otterbein only down 4-3 after a goal from reigning OAC Offensive Player of the Week Carli Rigel with just five seconds on the clock.

  • DePauw opened a 6-3 lead early in the second quarter but the Cards finished strong into the break, with yet another goal in the closing seconds (this time from Riley Smith) beating the horn at just three seconds. That brought Otterbein within 7-6.

  • A difference-making third frame saw DePauw net six goals, and ultimately punctuate the game on an 8-0 run to pull away down the stretch.
NOTABLE STATS:
  • Many categories were relatively even, but the Tigers went a perfect 22 for 22 clearing the ball while Otterbein was just 13 of 29 getting possession upfield.

  • Both sides combined to go just 3 of 16 on free-position attempts, featuring solid goalie play on both ends. Maggie Nance had a dozen saves for Otterbein while counterpart Lydia Hollis made 14 for the visitors.

  • Ava Robey remained aggressive in pushing forward, tying for a game-high six points behind two goals and four helpers. She found Carli Rigel (hat trick) on three of those.

  • Otterbein won 17 of 28 draws, led by a game-high six into the stick of Alyssa Glenn.

  • Graesen Campbell and Bridget Driscoll also had six-point outings themselves on the DePauw side.
UP NEXT:

The Cardinals, falling back to 4-2, will have one more non-conference game middle of next week before turning its attention to the OAC schedule. They will host Ohio Wesleyan come Wednesday at 5 p.m.
