Women's Lacrosse Outlasts Polar Bears in Wet Conditions

ADA, Ohio – Make it a 3-0 start to conference play for the Otterbein women's lacrosse team, which maneuvered host Ohio Northern and a driving rainstorm to finish at Dial-Roberson Stadium on a cold Wednesday night.

The Cardinals, now having won all 10 meetings against ONU in program history, won this installment by a gritty 14-11 margin to remain unbeaten in the league.

HOW IT PLAYED OUT:
  • Ava Robey scored a man-up goal less than 90 seconds into the night and Otterein began the contest on a 3-0 run. They later held a football-like cushion of 7-3 early in the second quarter after consecutive goals from Carlie Rigel and another via Robey.

  • ONU settled in and punched back just prior to halftime, ending the second period on a four-goal run to knot things at 7-7 by intermission.

  • A back-and-forth third quarter saw another seven goals and rotating momentum swings - featuring an 11-11 deadlock, a pair of man-up scores, and 12-11 Otterbein lead entering the fourth.

  • Scoring would reach a standstill as mother nature reared her ugly head, with sleet and snow picking up down the backstretch. Rigel and Logan Fox helped cement the outcome following more than 12 minutes without a goal, connecting on timely back-to-back goals (3:29 and 2:24) for Fox in the closing minutes to ice the game.
NOTABLE STATS:
  • Rigel continued her impressive scoring pace with another nine points to lead all players, this time coming on six goals and three dimes. Robey added another five while Fox, Alyssa Glenn and Riley Smith all had multi-goal nights for the cause.

  • Both teams finished with an identical 30 shots overall.

  • Otterbein was just 10 of 20 on clear attempts, but helped make up for that loss of possession by snagging 18 of 29 draws. Rigel and Robey combined for 11 themselves.

  • Elizabeth Graham led the home side with a hat trick.

SATURDAY SHOWDOWN:
  • The Cardinals will now return home for a critical matchup with Mount Union at Memorial Stadium, with opening draw set for early evening at 5 p.m.
