LIMA, Ohio – The top seeded Otterbein women's tennis team made quick work in dispatching No. 4 seed Mount Union on Saturday morning in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals, breezing past the Raiders 5-0 after the match was moved indoors to nearby Westwood Tennis Center.
The Cardinals, taking one step closer to a third-straight OAC Tournament crown, won five courts rather quickly and were leading the other four handily at the time of clinching.
As a result, Otterbein (15-4) will take on No. 2 seed Ohio Northern for the title come Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The Polar Bears blanked John Carroll in the second semifinal.
Erin Storrer and
Olivia Eckels won 8-2 on the first doubles line, while
Lillia Walter and
Aubrey McMahon were a perfect 8-0 on the middle court.
Rachelle Moses and
Julia Gillin made it a three-piece combo to begin the day after grinding out a workmanlike 8-5 score.
Eckeles was the first to conclude her singles match with clean 6-0, 6-0 scores and McMahon was right behind at 6-0, 6-2. All other Cardinals won their opening sets comfortably and were well into control during the second.
Walter nearly sealed her deal but went "unfinished" at 6-1, 5-1… while Storrer and Shough did not drop a set.
Otterbein and Ohio Northern played to an epic 5-4 decision (for the Cards) just a few weeks ago in Westerville, and have also met in the last two championship clashes.
