Adelman's career-night helps No. 20 volleyball defeat Wilmington

eWESTERVILLE, Ohio – Backed by a triple double from Elise Adelman, the No. 20 Otterbein University volleyball team won 3-1 over Wilmington College. The junior ended the night with 16 assists, 10 kills and 11 digs – coming in just three sets.

Jumping out to an early 14-4 lead, the Cardinals held all of the momentum in the first set. Emerson Baum smacked three of her 10 kills in that run, while Brooke Barb contributed a pair. Back to back kills from Lexi Scott ended the first set in a 25-15 win for the hosts. Wilmington responded by winning the second set in a tight 25-21 decision.

Otterbein got back on track in the third set, turning a 20-17 deficit into a 23-20 advantage. With Adelman back to serve, the Cardinals received an ace from Adelman and three kills from freshman Madison Keith to retake the lead. After a service error by WC pushed the Cardinals to set point, Keith capped off her marvelous set with an ace, as Otterbein won 25-21.

Using an 8-1 run in the fourth set, the Cardinals were able to create distance and slowly pull away from the Quakers. Sophomore Gabi Whittenburg served up two aces and two of Adelman's kills spanned in that run.

Baum and Adelman were the only Cardinals with double-digit kills, each recording 10. Baum swung at a stout .556 clip. Olivia Vitaz contributed 12 assists, as Madison Lacy totaled a career-best 20 in the win. Whittenburg also finished with a career-best 12 digs to lead the Otterbein defense.

Otterbein continues OAC play on Friday with a 4 p.m. contest at Muskingum University.
