Women's Soccer earns 1–0 win over Capital

WESTERVILLE – The Otterbein women's soccer team came out on top in this year's Battle for the Oar, defeating rival Capital 1–0 Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Stadium.

Senior Alyssa Lemos delivered the deciding goal in the 19th minute. Capital attempted to move the ball upfield from its own side, but Lemos stepped in around the 10-yard line to intercept a pass. She quickly found herself in open space and ripped a shot from just outside the box on the left side, sending it high over the keeper's gloves and into the top-right corner of the net.

The Cardinals were outshot 14–12 but stood tall defensively, anchored by a strong effort from the back line and senior goalkeeper Ella Schwertfager, who tallied nine saves to preserve the shutout.

Both teams received two yellow cards in a physical rivalry matchup. Capital finished with six corners to Otterbein's two.

With the win, the Cardinals keep the Oar in Westerville and add another rivalry victory to their season record.

Otterbein will close out the regular season next Saturday, November 1, hosting Heidelberg for Senior Day at Memorial Stadium.
