ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team opened Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play on the road Saturday evening, earning a 2-1 win over Mount Union.
The Cardinals came out strong early, striking first in the 14th minute when sophomore Olivia Brooks carried the ball down the left sideline and sent a cross into the box, where senior Rae Ehrbar slid in to connect and finish for the opening goal. Otterbein doubled its lead in the 24th minute as freshman Elaina Seif received a cross from the right side and found senior Cami McCulty at the top of the box, who drilled a shot into the back of the net to make it 2-0 heading into halftime.
Mount Union managed to cut into the deficit with a goal in the 50th minute, but the Cardinals held steady defensively the rest of the way to secure their first conference victory of the season.
Otterbein finished with a 13-4 shot advantage, including eight on target, while Mount Union's goalkeeper tallied five saves.
The Cardinals will return home Wednesday, Oct. 8, to host Marietta. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
