Shore claims title as Women's Wrestling wraps up regular season at Quad Cities D3 Invite

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Senior Olivia Shore captured her weight class title as the Otterbein women's wrestling team wrapped up its inaugural regular season with an 11th-place finish at the Quad Cities D3 Invite at Augustana (Ill.) over the weekend.

The Basics
  • Venue: Roy J. Carver Center - Rock Island, Ill.
  • Otterbein scored 42.5 points and placed 11th of 31 teams. Wartburg won the event with 182.5 points. Wisconsin-Stevens Point was second with 147 points, and Simpson was third with 146.5 points.
  • The two-day event featured eight teams ranked in the Team Tournament Rankings from The Open Mat: No. 2 North Central, No. 9 Wartburg, No. 13 Aurora, No. 14 Otterbein, No. 20 Wisconsin-Stevens Point, No. 22 Simpson, No. 23 Schreiner and No. 25 New Jersey City.
  • The event featured eight teams from the latest Team Tournament Top 25 from the NWCA, which was released on Friday: No. 2 North Central, No. 11 Wartburg, No. 12 Aurora, No. 17 Wisconsin-Stevens Point, No. 17 Otterbein, No. 20 Dubuque, No. 22 Schreiner and No. 24 Simpson.

Otterbein Individual Highlights
  • 103: Shore delivered a dominant performance, claiming first place and scoring 26.5 team points for Otterbein. She opened with a 10-0 tech fall over Sofia Kawano (Eureka) before pinning Audrey Swiderek (UW-Oshkosh) in just 38 seconds. In the semifinals, she continued her streak with a 1:06 fall over Gabriella Motz (Albion). Olivia secured her title with a 1:02 pin against Odelia Lopez (Schreiner) in the championship match, earning the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler award.
  • 103: Freshman Kellie Kennedy fell by technical fall (10-0) to Alexis Winecke (Stevens Point) in the opening round and by pin (1:06) to Karina Torres (Carthage) in the first round of consolation.
  • 110: Freshman Rylee Touhalisky advanced with a bye before falling to Mackenzie Burger (Alma) by technical fall (10-0) in the second round. In consolation, she put up a fight but lost to Lynsey Light (Albion) by technical fall (14-4). 
  • 117: Freshman Hailey Hatfield battled through a tough bracket, dropping her opening match to Ella Weber (14-2) before advancing with a bye in consolation. She bounced back with a 16-6 tech fall win over Katalyn Dowell (Manchester) but fell to Nadia Thomas (North Central) (10-0) in the next round. 
  • 207: Freshman Grace Murphy secured a sixth-place finish and earned 13.5 team points for Otterbein. After a narrow 6-3 decision loss in the opening round, she bounced back with three consecutive pins, including a dominant 42-second fall over Natalie Espinoza (Schreiner). In the consolation semifinals, she fell to Khalila Corry (Lakeland) in 44 seconds, followed by a loss to Angie Guy (Augustana) in the fifth-place match. 
  • 207: Sophomore Marvet Hejazin started strong with a hard-fought 4-1 decision over Gabby Kennedy (Baldwin Wallace) in the opening round. In the quarterfinals, she fell to Rewa Chababo (Wartburg) in 1:02. Battling in the consolation bracket, she put up a fight but was pinned by Natalie Espinoza (Schreiner) at 5:08.
