Men's soccer knocks off Oberlin in home opener

WESTERVILLE – A winning performance in its 2025 season debut boosted the Otterbein University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Oberlin College. In the match, the Cardinals outshot the Yeomen by a 22-3 margin and held the edge in corners, 10-2.

Less than 10 minutes into the match, senior Patrick Ahrens scored to put Otterbein on the board off a feed from Lincoln Wallace. Earning the start as a freshman, Wallace immediately contributed to the Otterbein offense with his first collegiate point early on.

Unable to capitalize on many opportunities, Otterbein took a slim 1-0 lead into the half.

Desperate for an insurance goal, Otterbein got just that in the 81st minute. Awarded a penalty kick, junior Josh Lord buried the shot to double the Cardinal advantage heading into the final nine minutes.

The Yeomen got on the board late with an own goal, but the Cardinals were able to fend off the visitors to secure the opening day win.

Otterbein has now won five straight contests over the Yeomen.

The Cardinals head to Ohio Wesleyan on Friday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
