Box Score DELAWARE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team went toe-to-toe with Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday night, battling to a 1-1 draw in non-conference action against a Battling Bishops squad receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
The first half leaned in Ohio Wesleyan's favor statistically, as the hosts generated six shots and six corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper
Jason Villalobos stood tall in net, collecting two saves on the only shots that reached target. Senior
Nick Isaac provided Otterbein's lone attempt before the break.
Otterbein broke through shortly after halftime, capitalizing on a pair of efforts from Isaac in the 60th minute. His initial strike rattled off the right post, but senior
Jacob Irani quickly pounced on the rebound and buried the follow-up to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.
Ohio Wesleyan responded just seven minutes later when Gabe O'Reilly delivered a long pass up the middle to Thomas Boyd, who converted the equalizer in the 67th minute. Both sides had limited chances down the stretch as the score ultimately held even.
The Cardinals posted a 10-4 shot advantage by night's end, with each team recording two on goal. Villalobos and OWU's goalkeeper finished with one save apiece. Otterbein also held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks after the break, though the Bishops finished with 8 overall.
Otterbein will return to action this weekend, traveling to Carnegie Mellon for a Saturday Sept. 6 matchup.
