Ratliff, Baum earn OAC Athlete of the Week honors

After the first weekend of competition, Payne Ratliff and Emerson Baum have been named the OAC Athletes of the Week in their respective sports. Ratliff earned the honor for men's cross country, while Baum was the volleyball offensive player selected.

Ratliff won Friday's season-opening race at the Wooster Invitational. In the four mile course, the senior won with a time of 21:05.0, a margin of over 30 seconds. Despite no team scores at the competition, Ratliff was the first of six Cardinals to finish in the top ten.

Ratliff and the cross country teams will host the Otterbein Invitational on Sep. 13, marking the first home race in eight years. The women's race will commence at 10:45 a.m., followed by the men at 11:30 a.m.

Baum lifted the volleyball team to a 4-0 weekend, thanks to her 56 kill, 23 total block weekend. In the four games, the sophomore hit at a .468 clip and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Her best game came against Gettysburg, where she notched 20 kills (.531) and had eight assisted blocks.

The volleyball team will host Centre, Stevenson and Allegheny this weekend as part of the Pam Briggs Classic. Otterbein will play at 3 and 7 p.m. on Friday before wrapping up the weekend with a 10 a.m. match Saturday.
