Four collect OAC Athlete of the Week honors

WESTERVILLE – Four Otterbein University athletes were chosen as the OAC Athletes of the Week in their respective sports, as announced on Monday afternoon. The Cardinals swept the cross country awards while taking home the offensive accolades in both men's and women's soccer.

Senior Rae Ehrbar scored all four goals for the women's soccer team last week, turning in a 2-0 overall record. Ehrbar scored in the 36th minute to get Otterbein on the board before converting a penalty kick late in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Oberlin. On Saturday, she scored twice to lift Otterbein to a 2-1 win over Franciscan, giving head coach Brandon Koons his 350th career win at helm.

Ehrbar and the women's soccer team heads to Wittenberg University for a 5 p.m. Tuesday match.

Nick Isaac was instrumental in Otterbein men's soccer posting a 1-0-1 record last week. Hosting No. 1 Denison on Wednesday, he assisted on the first Cardinal goal of the night – the first goal conceded by the Big Red all season. The senior followed with a goal early in the second half as the squad drew with the Big Red, 3-3. In Saturday's 2-1 victory over Trine, Isaac contributed a beautiful assist on the game's first goal coming in the 53rd minute.

Tomorrow, the men's soccer team will be in action at Kenyon College. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.

In an extremely competitive field, Payne Ratliff placed second overall in the Division III race, helping the men's cross country team win the DIII race at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Challenge. Collecting his second OAC Athlete of the Week honor this season, Ratliff ran a season-best time of 25:11.3.

Freshman Kate Thormeier was named the OAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week following her seventh place performance in the DIII race at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Challenge. Thormeier finished with a time of 22:54.5, helping the women finish fourth amongst all Division III programs at the meet.

Ratliff, Thormeier and the Otterbein cross country teams will be back in action at the Live in Lou Classic on Oct. 4.
