WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Otterbein women's soccer team delivered a stellar defensive performance Saturday afternoon, shutting out conference opponent Ohio Northern University 1-0 at Memorial Stadium to secure its fourth consecutive victory.
The Cardinals wasted little time finding the back of the net. After Ohio Northern recorded two shots in the opening six minutes, Otterbein quickly responded with the game's only goal. Sela Anderson finished a well-placed pass from Olivia Brooks to give the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead.
Ohio Northern continued to apply pressure throughout the first half, recording seven shots in total. However, Otterbein's defense stood tall, limiting the Polar Bears' opportunities and protecting their 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The defensive effort only intensified in the second half as Ohio Northern added nine more shots in pursuit of an equalizer. The Cardinals remained composed and disciplined, consistently disrupting the Polar Bears' attack and refusing to surrender a goal. Their resilience and teamwork proved to be the difference, as Otterbein held on to earn the hard-fought shutout victory.
Isabella Neal played all 90 minutes, recording six saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Otterbein returns to action next Wednesday, Oct. 21, when the Cardinals host conference opponent Wilmington at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
