NEW ALBANY, Ohio – The Otterbein University men's tennis team picked up a solid 5-2 victory over John Carroll on Saturday at New Albany High School.
The Cardinals used a strong showing in singles play to secure the win, claiming four of six matches after splitting doubles competition.
In doubles play, Otterbein earned the early point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Senior Max Fickas and junior Neil Reddy handled business at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1 victory, while sophomore Sanjan Shanker and senior Halen Hamstead battled to an 8-6 win at No. 3. John Carroll took the No. 1 doubles match.
Otterbein took control in singles, winning four flights to seal the match. Junior Jake Chilcote delivered a strong 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles. Junior Nikita Kitaev followed with a three-set win at No. 4, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3).
At No. 5, Reddy added another point with a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3) victory. Fickas capped off the scoring with a comeback win at No. 2 singles, rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) result.
John Carroll earned wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles.
Otterbein will return home on Sunday, March 29 to host Ohio Wesleyan at 9 a.m. in a Senior Day match.
