Women's lacrosse drops home matchup to Wooster

WESTERVILLE – The Otterbein University women's lacrosse team fell 21-7 to the College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Wooster came out strong, scoring seven goals in the opening quarter to take early control. Otterbein answered with a free-position goal from freshman Karley Gerst late in the period, but the Fighting Scots carried momentum into the second and extended their lead to 15-3 by halftime.

The Cardinals showed fight coming out of the break, finding more rhythm offensively in the second half. Freshmen Madi McIntosh and Joslyn VanGundy each scored in the third quarter to help cut into the deficit.

Freshman Leela Henry and McIntosh each finished with two goals to lead the Cardinals, while Gerst also added a pair on free-position attempts. Henry's second goal came man-down in the fourth quarter, highlighting Otterbein's effort late in the contest. VanGundy chipped in one goal and senior Ava Robey recorded an assist.

Otterbein will return to action Friday, April 3, traveling to Capital for the annual Oar matchup, looking to bring the Oar back to Westerville. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
