Women’s lacrosse cruises past Albion as Robey sets career points record

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Senior Ava Robey became the Otterbein University women's lacrosse program's all-time leader in career points as the Cardinals defeated Albion, 21-5, on Friday evening at Memorial Stadium.

Robey finished the game with five points on three goals and two assists, pushing her career total to 230 points to surpass the previous program record of 227.
 


Freshman Leela Henry led the Cardinals offensively with four goals and four assists, while junior Alyssa Glenn also recorded six points behind four goals and two assists. Freshman Madi McIntosh added three goals and one assist, while freshman Kyla Klaus contributed three goals and an assist.

Albion struck first just 45 seconds into the game, but Otterbein quickly responded as Henry netted the equalizer before Robey gave the Cardinals the lead off a pass from Glenn. Otterbein continued to pour it on throughout the opening quarter with goals from Glenn, McIntosh and Klaus, building a commanding 9-1 lead after the first period.

The Cardinals kept the pressure on in the second quarter. Freshman Vivian Isaacs opened the scoring with a free-position goal before Henry and Glenn each found the back of the net. Klaus and freshman Karley Gerst added goals late in the period to push the Otterbein advantage to 14-1 at halftime.

Henry opened the scoring in the third quarter before McIntosh and freshman Dakota Klein each added goals to extend the lead. Albion scored twice in the period, but Isaacs answered with her second goal of the game as Otterbein held an 18-3 advantage after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, McIntosh scored again before Robey added another goal to continue building the Cardinals' lead. Albion scored twice late in the period, but Henry closed the scoring with her fourth goal of the night as Otterbein secured the 21-5 victory.

Defensively, Glenn paced the Cardinals with seven ground balls and eight caused turnovers, while Otterbein finished the game with 29 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alayna Bogner earned the win, making two saves in the opening half before sophomore Catherine Hannaford and freshman Kristina Pérez each saw time in goal.

Otterbein returns to action on Wednesday, March 11, traveling to Danville, Kentucky to face Centre College.
