GRANVILLE, Ohio — Otterbein men's tennis faced one of the nation's top programs Friday afternoon, coming up short in a 7–0 road decision against No. 4 Denison at the Denison Tennis Courts. The Cardinals move to 4–8 on the season following the non‑conference matchup.
Denison set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles courts.
Sanjan Shanker and
Nikita Kitaev battled at the top spot but fell 6–1, while the No. 2 pairing of
Neil Reddy and
Jake Chilcote dropped a 6–0 decision.
Max Fickas and
Halen Hamstead rounded out doubles play with a 6–2 setback at the third position.
In singles action, the Big Red continued their strong form. Shanker delivered a competitive effort at No. 1 before ultimately falling 6–2, 6–2, while Fickas mirrored that score line at the No. 2 position.
Chilcote (No. 3) and Kitaev (No. 4) each dropped straight‑set decisions, and Reddy pushed in the second set at No. 5 before coming up short 6–0, 6–3.
Zach Frederick closed out the lineup at No. 6 with a 6–0, 6–2 result.
Otterbein now turns its attention back to conference play as the Cardinals travel to Ohio Northern next weekend for a 10 a.m. matchup.
