Gopel, a junior from Galloway (Hilliard Bradley), won the 800-meter run and ran the 1200-meter leg of the winning distance medley relay team at the OAC South Split meet, held over the weekend at Marietta. The junior ran a 1:57.17 in the 800, which is the fastest time in the conference this season.

As a result of his efforts, he was voted the Ohio Athletic Conference 'Athlete of the Week.'
