Doup Headshot 22

Tim Doup

Tim Doup, a 2x Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Coach of the Year, begins his 11 season at the helm of his alma mater in 2022.

A 1992 graduate of Otterbein, Coach Doup, 53, took over the head coaching duties in 2012 after serving as the team’s offensive coordinator for nine seasons. He led the Cardinals to an 8-2 record his first season and was selected Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Coach of the Year as a result. Doup was also recently voted OAC Coach of the Year in 2019 by his counterparts across the league, recognizing his leadership beyond the win-loss column.

A native of Delaware, Ohio, Doup was a key ingredient in the uptick of Otterbein football. The Cardinals compiled a 49-42 record over his nine seasons as offensive coordinator, including a 17-4 span to culminate the 2000's. The 2008 squad made the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time in school history. Doup was named OAC Assistant Coach of the Year during that run, leading an offense that generated 380 yards and 39 points a game en route to a new Otterbein single-season record of 427 total points.

Doup possesses more than 20 years of football coaching experience and, before returning to his alma mater in 2003, served eight seasons as an assistant coach at Upper Arlington High School (1995-2002). Over the course of his career there, Upper Arlington won five conference championships, advanced to the Division I State Final Four in 1997 and 1998, and won the state title in 2000. He was selected Central Ohio Division I assistant coach of the year in 1997. Doup also taught physical education at Upper Arlington from 1998 to 2002.

Other coaching assignments include assistant wrestling coach at Upper Arlington (1991-2002) as well as assistant track coach (1991-95) and assistant football coach (1991-94) at Olentangy High School in Ohio. Doup graduated with a degree in physical education was a four-year letterman at center, serving as football captain his senior year. He received his master’s degree in the art of teaching from Marygrove College in 2002.

Coach Doup and his wife, Helyn, have three children; Colton, Kaden and Kennedie. All are current students at Otterbein.
