ADA, OHIO – Otterbein suffered a 69-54 setback in conference action Saturday afternoon at the hands of Ohio Northern.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in league play, while the win moves ONU to 4-5, 2-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Northern jumped out to an early 13-6 lead at the 15:10 mark when Jeanne Bockey buried a three-pointer.
OC battled back and closed to within one, at 19-18, when sophomore Katie Stallard made a jumper with 9:43 to play in the first half.
The Cards then went on a quick 9-2 run, capped by an Allison Huettel jumper to give the team a 27-21 edge with just over six minutes remaining before the break.
However, Ohio Northern outscored Otterbein 20-4 over the duration of the half to take a 41-31 lead into intermission.
The Polar Bears Kept the momentum going in the early stages of the second half, pushing their lead to 55-33 with 14:22 showing on the game clock.
The Cardinals would get no closer than 12 the rest of the way as ONU earned the 69-54 victory.
Otterbein was led by senior Katy Miller, who tied for game-highs of 14 points and nine rebounds. She was 6-of-13 from the floor.
Guard Shea McCoy was the only other Cardinal in double figures, scoring 11 points on a 5-of-10 effort from the field.
Bockey led the Polar Bears with 14 points while three other ONU players tallied double-figures.
Northern converted 16-of-19 free throw attempts while Otterbein was just 4-of-7.
Otterbein returns to action on Dec. 28 when they open against Hanover in the Smokey Ballenger Tournament. Tip-off for that contest is slated for 6 p.m. inside the Rike Center.
