Women's Hoops Narrowly Falls to JCU

Box Score

WESTERVILLE, OHIO - The Otterbein University women's basketball team (2-7, 0-4 OAC) dropped a slim contest with visiting John Carroll University (6-3, 2-2 OAC), falling 67-66 Saturday evening in the Rike Center.

Otterbein got off to a solid start, taking an 11-4 lead after just five minutes of play. However, the offense stalled as the Cards posted just ten points over the next 12 minutes, allowing the Streaks to even the contest at 21-21.

Otterbein then found its stride again, rattling off nine straight points to take a 30-21 lead into halftime.

The Cards remained in control over the opening minutes of the second half, leading 37-29 at the 14:44 mark before JCU stormed back to tie the game at 39-39, and eventually take a 42-39 lead on its next possession.

Otterbein took a 45-44 lead minutes later, but John Carroll hung tough and strung together a 9-2 run to open a 55-47 lead with just under six minutes to play.

Refusing to go away, the Cards fought down the stretch and closed to within a point, at 62-61 and 64-63, but it wouldn't be enough as JCU eventually escaped with a 67-66 victory.
Junior Shea McCoy led Otterbein with 27 points on 11-of-23 shooting, while junior Katie Stallard registered a career-best 23 points to go along with eight rebounds.

The Cards did a solid job limiting JCU's Lee Jennings early, holding the league's leading scorer to just three points in the second half. She would score 17 after halftime en route to a team-best 20 points.

The Blue Streaks shot .441 for the game, including a blistering 18-of-25 (.720) effort in the second half. Otterbein shot .342 for the game and just 14-of-44 after halftime.

The Cards return to action Wednesday evening, hitting the road to take on Baldwin-Wallace. Tip-off in Berea is slated for 7:30 p.m.
